Felix Solís Avantis purchased the Viña Bajoz winery in September of 2008. The main objective was to extend their range of products. Currently there are four wineries under the name of Pagos del Rey, all located in the most renowned winemaking regions in Spain: Rueda, Ribera del Duero, Rioja and Toro.
All the Viña Bajoz brands will be made commercially available through all distribution channels, but especially in the on- trade market, where these brands are already well recognized, and in the international market, where the brand “Toro” is becoming increasingly important. It is certainly one of Spain´s most promising regions for the production of red wines of impressive quality. The company will also try to widen the range of products for the off-trade market.
The origins of Pagos del Rey in DO Toro date back to the establishment of Viña Bajoz. Viña Bajoz was established in 1952, its first name was “Nuestra Señora de las Viñas”, but this was changed to “Viña Bajoz”, in honour of the river in the nearby village of Morales de Toro.
But, the winery and its commercialisation really took off in the nineties, thanks to the promotion of their main brands; Bajoz, Gran Bajoz and Finca la Meda, which are exclusively made from Tinta de Toro grapes.
Pagos del Rey DO Toro is one of the most modern and important wineries in Castilla y León. The winery is open to the public through guided visits, and it has a shop where the wines can be bought.
